What Are Spring Nuts?
Spring Nuts are single-piece, spring-action fastening elements stamped from hardened strip steel. They grip onto a panel edge, slot, or bolt thread by spring tension alone — requiring no tools, no welding, and no rear access for installation. Once engaged, the spring force of the nut resists vibration-induced loosening, making them a preferred fastening solution in dynamic, high-cycle applications.
They are commonly known by several names depending on configuration and industry:
- Speed Nuts — U-shaped clip that snaps over a panel edge with an integral threaded hole
- Clip Nuts / U-Nuts — clips onto a panel flange, accepts a bolt from the front face only

Types of Spring Nuts Available
1. U-Nut (Clip Nut) — DIN 7967 variant

2. Speed Nut (Tinnerman Nut)
A flat stamped spring nut with a pierced thread form. Snaps over a panel edge or into a slot. Accepts self-tapping or machine screws. Standard for high-volume sheet metal assembly in HVAC, automotive, and appliance manufacturing.
3. J-Nut
A J-shaped clip that hooks into a rectangular slot or T-profile channel. The bolt engages a threaded tab on the spring arm. Used extensively in automotive body assembly and modular structural profiles.
4. Push-On Nut (Spire Nut / Palnut)
A multi-finger stamped nut that pushes axially onto a plain or threaded stud, gripping by spring finger contact. Used for light retention, cable management clips, and trim fastening where removal is not anticipated.
5. Flat Push-On Nut
