Dacromet & Geomet
Dacromet and Geomet are zinc-aluminium flake composite coatings applied by dip-spin or spray process and cured at 300°C — a process that introduces no atomic hydrogen and carries zero hydrogen embrittlement risk, making these coatings the industry-preferred alternative to HDG for high-tensile Grade 10.9, 12.9 and ASTM A490 fasteners. The cured coating consists of overlapping zinc and aluminium flakes in an inorganic binder matrix, providing barrier corrosion protection with a degree of sacrificial cathodic protection. Geomet 321 and Dacromet 320 produce 8–12 micron coatings with 720–1,000 hours neutral salt spray resistance — significantly exceeding zinc electroplate at a fraction of HDG’s coating weight. Both coatings are RoHS compliant and contain no hexavalent chromium (Cr6+), meeting EU ELV Directive and REACH requirements increasingly specified on international projects.
