What Are Nylon Lock Nuts?
Nylon Lock Nuts are prevailing torque nuts in which a nylon insert — either a full ring or a partial collar — is bonded or pressed into a recess machined into the top face of the nut. When the nut is threaded onto a bolt, the nylon insert is forced to deform around the bolt thread profile, creating a controlled interference fit that generates a consistent prevailing torque resistant to self-loosening.
The key operating principle is thread interference friction — the deformed nylon grips the bolt thread flanks and resists rotation in the loosening direction without requiring any additional locking elements. This makes Nylon Lock Nuts a single-component locking solution that is faster to install, easier to inspect, and more cost-effective than multi-component locking systems for the vast majority of general industrial applications.

2. Thin Hex Nylon Lock Nut — DIN 982
A reduced-height version of DIN 985 for space-constrained applications where the full nut height cannot be accommodated. Provides the same nylon insert locking mechanism in a shallower profile. Common in automotive, HVAC panel assemblies, and compact mechanical designs.
3. All-Metal Prevailing Torque Nut (High Temperature Alternative)
For applications exceeding 120°C where nylon inserts are unsuitable, Asia Bolts also supplies all-metal prevailing torque nuts (DIN 980, ISO 7042) — distorted thread or top-crimped variants that provide locking performance at elevated temperatures without a nylon element.
