What Are Coupling Nuts?

Coupling Nuts are elongated nuts — significantly longer than standard hex nuts — with a continuous internal thread running the full length of the nut body. This extended thread engagement length allows two externally threaded elements (threaded rods, bolts, studs, or anchor bolts) to be joined end-to-end within the coupling nut body, creating a mechanically continuous threaded connection capable of transmitting the full tensile, compressive, and shear loads of the connected elements.

The extended body length — typically three times the nominal thread diameter (DIN 6334) or greater — ensures sufficient thread engagement on both sides of the joint to develop the full proof load of the connected fasteners, preventing thread strip failure at the connection under design loading.

Types of Coupling Nuts Available

1. Standard Hex Coupling Nut — DIN 6334
The most widely specified coupling nut configuration globally. A full hexagonal external profile with continuous internal thread, length equal to approximately 3× nominal diameter. The hex profile allows full torque application with a standard spanner or wrench during installation. Standard stock item for metric M6 to M36 in carbon steel zinc plated and stainless steel AISI 304 / 316 at our Dubai facility.

2. Heavy Hex Coupling Nut
An increased hex body width and greater wall thickness than DIN 6334 standard — providing higher proof load capacity and improved resistance to wrench rounding in heavy-duty structural and civil applications. Specified for ASTM A193 B7 stud bolt extensions and high-load anchor bolt connections in oil & gas and civil infrastructure projects.

3. Reducing Coupling Nut
An internally threaded coupling nut with different thread sizes at each end — allowing the connection of two threaded elements of different diameters or thread forms. Used in mechanical assemblies, pipe fitting connections, and retrofit applications where thread size transitions are required within a single joint.

4. Left-Hand / Right-Hand Coupling Nut (Turnbuckle Nut)
A coupling nut threaded with a right-hand thread at one end and a left-hand thread at the other — functioning as a turnbuckle body that can extend or shorten the connected rod assembly by rotation of the coupling nut alone, without rotating the connected rods. Used in tension rod systems, bracing cables, and adjustable structural connections.

5. Weld-End Coupling Nut
A coupling nut with one threaded end and one plain (unwelded) end for direct welding onto structural steel plates, base plates, or frames — creating a permanent threaded boss for field bolt-up connections. Common in structural fabrication and equipment base frame construction.

6. Long Coupling Nut (Extra Long)
Extended-length coupling nuts exceeding the DIN 6334 standard body length — for applications requiring deeper thread engagement than standard, or for connecting rods with long plain (unthreaded) sections between the threaded ends. Manufactured to customer drawing.
