Tectyl Coating
Tectyl is a wax-based rust preventive compound applied to fasteners for long-term storage protection and preservation during transit. Commonly specified for Saudi Aramco, ADNOC, and SABIC projects where fasteners are stored in outdoor laydown areas for extended periods. Tectyl coating is removable and does not affect final assembly or torque values.

Tectyl is a brand name for a series of wax-based, petroleum-derived rust preventive compounds manufactured by Valvoline/Tectyl. When applied to fastener surfaces, Tectyl creates a soft, waxy film that displaces moisture and prevents oxidation — making it ideal for long-term storage protection of carbon steel fasteners in humid, coastal, or tropical environments.
Asia Bolts Industries applies Tectyl coatings (most commonly Tectyl 506 and Tectyl 846 K19) to fasteners destined for extended project storage or international shipment to high-humidity destinations.
Common Tectyl Grades Used on Fasteners:
• Tectyl 506: Solvent-deposited wax film; excellent indoor and outdoor protection; clear/amber colour; most widely specified
• Tectyl 846 K19: Heavier wax coating for severe outdoor storage; used on structural bolts stored in GCC open laydown areas
• Tectyl 502-C: Corrosion preventive for machined surfaces; clear film; used on precision fasteners
Key Characteristics:
• Film Thickness: 15–50 µm (soft, waxy, non-rigid)
• Colour: Clear to amber (grade dependent)
• Removal: Solvent wipe or mineral spirits — no mechanical removal required
• Does Not Affect: Thread dimensions, torque-tension values, or subsequent coating adhesion
Tectyl coating is widely specified in Saudi Aramco (SAES), ADNOC, and SABIC material requisitions for bulk fastener supply where storage periods may exceed 6–24 months before installation. All Tectyl-coated fasteners from Asia Bolts are supplied with application documentation referencing the specific Tectyl grade applied.
