Pal Nuts — also known as Palnuts, Spire Nuts, Push-On Retaining Nuts, or Speed Retaining Nuts — by Asia Bolts Industries are single-piece, stamped spring steel fasteners designed to push axially onto a plain or threaded stud, bolt, or shaft and grip by multi-finger spring tension alone — providing instant, tool-free retention without rotation, threading, or secondary locking elements. The inward-angled spring fingers of the Pal Nut deflect outward as the fastener is pushed onto the stud, then spring back to grip the stud surface or thread flanks — creating a one-way mechanical retention that resists axial pull-off forces while allowing quick hand-removal when the fingers are released.

Widely used as secondary retention fasteners, anti-vibration retainers, cable and wire clip retainers, and trim retention nuts in automotive, electrical, HVAC, and general assembly applications, Pal Nuts are manufactured from hardened carbon spring steel and stainless steel to DIN 6798, ASME B18.21.1, and proprietary stamping specifications. What Are Pal Nuts?

Pal Nuts are single-piece stamped spring fasteners — also referred to in industry as Palnuts, Spire Nuts, Speed Nuts, Push-On Retaining Nuts, or Multi-Finger Retaining Nuts — that consist of a flat or dished steel disc with multiple inward-angled spring fingers punched from the central area. When the Pal Nut is pushed axially onto a bolt, stud, or plain shaft:

  1. The spring fingers deflect outward as the stud passes through the central aperture
  2. The angled fingers spring back and grip the stud surface or thread flanks by multi-point spring contact
  3. The grip resistance increases proportionally with any axial pull-off force applied to the Pal Nut — creating a self-reinforcing retention mechanism
  4. The Pal Nut cannot be pushed further onto the stud beyond its seated position — providing positive end retention

The result is a one-push, tool-free, instant retention fastener that replaces conventional nut threading operations entirely in applications where the primary function is axial retention rather than clamping load generation.

Key distinctions from conventional nuts:

  • No rotation required for installation — push-on engagement only
  • No thread on the stud is required for plain-stud variants — grip is by spring finger contact on the plain shaft

Types of Pal Nuts Available

1. Standard Pal Nut (Multi-Finger Push-On)
The classic Pal Nut configuration — a flat stamped disc with four or more inward-angled spring fingers around a central aperture. Pushes onto plain or threaded studs and retains by multi-point spring finger grip. The lightest and most compact retention fastener available. Standard configuration for automotive trim, appliance panel, and instrument retention.

2. Dished Pal Nut
A Pal Nut with a dished (slightly conical) body form — the dish provides an axial spring load against the retained component in addition to the radial grip of the spring fingers. Used where both axial retention and a light preload against the retained panel or component are required simultaneously — providing rattle-free retention in vibrating environments.

3. Spire Nut (Spire Lock Nut)
A Pal Nut variant with a helical spire-form spring finger that engages the thread flanks of a threaded stud when pushed on — providing both axial retention and a degree of thread engagement resistance to rotation. Higher retention force than a plain multi-finger Pal Nut. Used in automotive and HVAC applications where the stud is threaded and higher pull-off resistance is required.

4. Flat Push-On Nut
A flat stamped nut with a central pierced thread form — pushes onto a threaded stud and provides retention by thread interference without rotation. A hybrid between a Pal Nut and a conventional nut — faster installation than threading but with thread engagement providing higher retention than plain spring finger grip.

5. Large Flange Pal Nut
A Pal Nut with an extended outer flange diameter — providing a larger bearing surface against the retained component or panel. Used where load distribution over a wider area is required to prevent pull-through of the Pal Nut into thin or soft panel materials.

6. Stainless Steel Pal Nut
Full Pal Nut configurations in AISI 304 and AISI 316 stainless steel for corrosive environment applications — marine equipment, offshore instrument enclosures, food processing plant, and coastal GCC installations where carbon steel spring corrosion would compromise retention performance.

7. Custom Stamped Pal Nut
For OEM customers requiring non-standard aperture sizes, custom flange diameters, bespoke spring finger counts and angles, or specific retention force targets — Asia Bolts develops custom Pal Nut stamping tooling from customer drawings or retention force specifications through to approved production supply.
