PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) and Xylan — a fluoropolymer coating system developed by Whitford Corporation — are the premier coating choices when chemical resistance, anti-galling, and controlled friction are the primary requirements.
Asia Bolts Industries applies PTFE and Xylan coatings in-house, offering a range of fluoropolymer systems from standard PTFE to Xylan 1014, 1070, and 1424 grades. The process involves thorough surface preparation, primer application, fluoropolymer topcoat application, and curing at controlled oven temperatures.
Xylan Grades Available:
• Xylan 1014: Standard general-purpose fluoropolymer; excellent lubricity and chemical resistance; 20–35 µm
• Xylan 1070: Designed specifically for threaded fasteners; excellent torque-tension reproducibility; black standard colour
• Xylan 1424: Enhanced corrosion resistance with fluoropolymer topcoat over zinc-rich primer; offshore rated
Key Properties:
• Coefficient of Friction: 0.03–0.12 (significantly lower than uncoated or zinc plated)
• Operating Temperature: -200°C to +260°C
• Chemical Resistance: Resistant to acids, alkalis, solvents, hydrocarbons
• Anti-Galling: Excellent — eliminates seizing on stainless steel and alloy steel studs
• Colour Options: Black (standard), blue, red, green, yellow, grey — for service/fluid identification
Applications include subsea bolts, chemical process flange studs, stainless steel bolts prone to galling, bolts in chloride-rich environments, and fasteners in food & pharmaceutical processing equipment. PTFE/Xylan coated fasteners from Asia Bolts are supplied with coating grade documentation, colour identification, and coating thickness reports.
